Transitional Services

It is important to recognize that when a family leaves Plaza Place, they may no longer be homeless, but they probably still face many of the same dilemmas as before: managing family expenses on income from a low-paying job; transportation issues; access to health care; school and child-care arrangements, etc. All families are offered transitional services for one year, to help them adjust to their new home and community environment. Their CEH social worker is available to continue working with the family on issues they have identified, but now their connections may be more by phone or in the family’s new home. It is an exciting time when the family invites the social worker to come and visit them in their new home.

Some families move into longer-term housing programs such as WISH, YWCA Families Together, or Project HOPE, and are supported by social workers in the particular program. WISH and Project HOPE also provide volunteer Hope Teams to provide additional support. CEH social workers help the families adjust to their new program and support systems.

Each November CEH has an “Alumni Reunion” and families are invited back to Plaza Place to reunite with staff and the friends they made during their stay.
